conflicting selves

Hello Charlotte, Firstly-let me disabuse you from the notion that I will ever tell you what you should do; there is never a ‘should’. I can only advise –and give you some pointers in working out what you yourself think is the best course of action. I notice running beneath your words a subtext of conflicting selves-on the one hand there’s the self with exhibitionist tendencies, she who wants me to know she has pert breasts and is excited at the idea of posing for her ‘painter’ friend. Will you be painted nude; it’s is probably worth knowing? In addition to this self, another manifests; one whose self appears more introspective almost self-obsessive-mind you my detection of the latter is possibly based on spurious, subjective criteria-more of a hunch in fact. I also see the dichotomy between the sensually adventurous spirit who gets excited at the thought of T and the conservative traditionally minded you who would like to remain virtuously loyal to her husband and probable religious upbringing. Of course, only you, really have the answer to which path you should take! A technique I would recommend for determining which path suits you the most would be to detach yourself from the idea first and look at it from a lateral perspective. You can’t solve an emotional dilemma in the same logical way we can solve a mathematical equation. There is no absolute right or wrong. So- I suggest 'putting' the idea of Dundee in your left hand and the idea of Dorking in your right, or vice versa and see which feels lighter, or, on thinking of which, makes you feel lighter in your being. Whichever it is, this is the one to follow. Does this help shed light on your conundrum at all? Let me know. Dr Bedford
